Great News!!!

Today I have received confirmation from DongBu Robot (formerly DasaRobot) that charging/docking stations will be made available for the Current model of Genibo, the Genibo-QD. Exact price not worked out yet, but expect it to be somewhere in the region of £75-£80 including the chest panel adapter modification.

I am not sure yet if this will be user-installable, I shall have details shortly. If it does require specialist fitting then we will fit at no installation cost for all customers who purchased their Genibo from Star-Robots, and for a small fee for other Genibo owners. This is NOT being marketed as a retail package, but rather as an upgrade option to be available to resellers. It has no fancy boxes or packaging and is available as a bulk-pack only, so no instruction books etc, but the most important thing is that it IS available and at an affordable price (less than the price of a 2nd hand ERS-210 station).

Here at Star-Robots we feel that feedback between end-users and manufacturers can be useful for all concerned. We are considering establishing a UK user group for DasaRobot products, or finding an existing user group to work with (why re-invent the wheel?). We have discussed this with DasaRobot, and received a positive response, so let’s do it!
If you are a UK based robotics user group and would like to have a communications channel back to the manufacturer of Genibo, HerkuleX, Tetra III etc please get in touch. If you would like to be a part of a user group please watch this space where we shall ether post news of affiliations with existing user groups, or start one of our own.

Despite plans that we would be attending the Gadget Show Live this year as an exhibitor, it’s going to be just a little too soon to show all the great new products just around the corner from DasaRobot. All said and done it’s a few thousand pounds to spend a week at such an event, so we have decided to hold back for 2-3 months until we have the new range to demonstrate.

DasaRobot have announced the addition of three new models to the Genibo Range.

These will be available starting with the Genibo-SD expected to be available from July 2011, with the Genibo-EDU and Genibo-M models to follow later in the year. Due to the time needed to get products CE certified, the European release may be a couple of months behind the Korean release, but we hope to secure some demonstration units for review before the release dates.

The new models look pretty much the same as the Genibo-QD, but on inspection it will be noticed that they have slightly chunkier shoulders to accommodate the new HerkuleX Servos. All models will be supplied with docking stations as standard.

The HerkuleX Servo announced at Inno-Robo Expo 2011 is used in every joint of the new Genibo range to be released throughout the rest of 2011, as well as the Biped Robot and others. It is available to order now as an individual unit for use in research, educational and home-build projects.
The Servo is digitally controlled and has a full featured set of commands for total control of speed, power and positional feedback. Multi-coloured LEDs built in to the servo unit may also be programmed to provide meaningful visual feedback.
These servos are built to the highest standards for long life, low noise, virtually no backlash and unparalleled control while still being very affordable.

There were some great new products from a number of manufacturers.

We had a meeting scheduled with DasaRobot to see their new product range. There are announcements from DasaRobot about 3 new versions of Genibo to be released to the market in the coming year, the first being the Genibo-SD expected by July 2011. DasaRobot announced their new ‘Masterpiece’ the Herkulex Servo motor range. Herkulx servos are digital servo units

The new Genibo-SD will use Herkulx servos, benefiting from quieter, more precise and more powerful motors. The New Genibo range will also come shipped with charging stations. The PC Control manager will now be an optional extra.

We have been working with a specialist engineering rubbers manufacturer for some time now to try and put together a user-installable that can be sent out to customers as an everything-you-need-in-a-box repair kit to allow the long awaited ear repairs. The problem that we seem unable to overcome is the adhesion of the ‘ear panels’ to the various silicon based rubbers that the manufacturer has offered us. All self-adhesive solutions that we have tested, despite looking quite promising at times quickly failed in use so were unsuitable for a good long term repair.

We have the ears designed and plasma-cut to size, and hope to offer a mail-in repair service very shortly.

We have lots going on behind the scenes here at Star-Robots right now. Development of our new website has been kicked into life at last, and hopefully should offer a slightly nicer range of features than the somewhat limited old site we have lived with to date.

Please bear with us as we populate the site.

For now, the Store is untouched, but shortly this will be cleaned up and simplified.
